Automating Artisan Production: The eSonic Ultrasonic Cutter Helps Small Food Producers Scale with Confidence
If you are a growing food business moving from artisan-scale to semi-automated food production, adopting an entry-level ultrasonic cutting machine can increase production efficiency, improve product quality and reduce costs.
High-performance Ultrasonic Cutting For Small-scale Producers
A machine such as the eSonic can streamline production by helping to enhance yield, speed up production and simplify cleaning, allowing small food businesses to scale up production efficiently without the complexity or cost of larger industrial systems.
Newtech’s ultrasonic cutting machines deliver consistent accuracy within ±0.5 mm and maintain precise, clean edges on delicate and sticky products by using a 20–40 kHz ultrasonic blade vibration that reduces product deformation and blade drag during high-speed cutting.
The eSonic is a compact unit of 1.5m length and is designed to cut a number of products, which include traybakes of up to 762 x 457mm, round cakes of up to 280mm in diameter and 65mm tall, as well as pies, quiche and loaf cakes. The minimal footprint and flexibility of the machine mean that it can be moved easily to suit changing production schedules – ideal for small businesses batch-producing products in relatively small quantities.
Improved Production Processes
The eSonic helps to automate a labour-intensive process, freeing up staff for other tasks. It is designed to be user-friendly and flexible, with minimal training required and has several features that are useful for businesses that need to juggle the batch production of multiple product lines:
- A 4-axis motion system ensures precise, automated control over blade movement, allowing for clean, accurate cuts across a variety of products, shapes, and tray sizes with minimal manual adjustment
- The user-friendly touchscreen interface enables operators to easily select, edit, and save cutting programs
- Multi-level user access (Operator, Supervisor, Engineer) enhances production security and traceability
- Remote access connection comes as standard, enabling diagnostics and support without waiting for an engineer to come out to site
- Optional wheel-mounting for increased flexibility.
The eSonic helps to optimise workflow, streamline changeovers and reduce downtime. Throughput is increased and waste reduced, which is crucial for small businesses where profit margins can be tight and waste can eat directly into profits.
Ultrasonic Cutting For Enhanced Hygiene & Safety
Automated ultrasonic cutting eliminates the need for workers to handle knives or operate manual slicers, lowering the likelihood of repetitive strain and cutting injuries. The ultrasonic blade is made from titanium, with a rounded, blunt edge rather than a razor-sharp one, which is safer in non-operational settings such as maintenance and cleaning.
Due to lower residue buildup on the blade the need for frequent blade cleaning is also reduced and the eSonic comes with the option of an integrated cleaning tank that allows the ultrasonic blade to clean itself. After cutting, the blade is rinsed automatically and then dried by a dry bar, which blows compressed air across the blade, speeding up the sanitation process.
